President Trump's Comments About On-Field Political Protests by NFL Players

Post by bobevenson »

First of all, it is absolutely inappropriate for the president to comment on private matters of any kind. On the other hand, it is absolutely appropriate for NFL owners to immediately fire players who negatively affect team profitability.

So if a team loses money, which is a different matter, the owner should do nothing.

What I'm saying is that any employee anywhere who causes problems for his employer shouldn't be surprised when he's shown the door. And if I were the owner of the team who hired the singer that made her own political statement by kneeling at the end of our national anthem, I'd hold up her check until the matter was settled in court.

The national anthem event isn't private. Also you're saying when a group commits violence such as the NeoNazis did, it's okay for the President to remain silent while a peaceful response such as kneeling, the President shouldn't tolerate.

Again, it is inappropriate for the president to comment on what players do on the football field as a political comment. However, team ownership has every right to control the actions of its employees in carrying out their jobs. ¿Entiende, por favor?

I think the key here is the idea of a political comment. The president in this context was condemning the idea of not respecting the anthem and/or flag. While he said the players should be fired, it was from the perspective of one opposed to their statement and manner of demonstrating it, not the fact that it may have affected their job performance. That is for the employers to work out.

Oh traitorous Bob, while we're on this topic, do you kneel when pledging allegiance to the flag? Aren't you the one who keeps saying you want to see one of our states secede?

Is pledging allegiance in the job description?

I'm sorry, but disrespecting the national anthem does in fact affect their job performance in providing the total entertainment value that fans are paying for via ticket purchases or watching on TV through advertising dollars spent on their behalf. Team ownership does not give players free advertising to promote their political viewpoints to the world.

Any on-the-job actions that cause problems for a company is sufficient reason for job termination, my friend.

Please, are you actually suggesting some kind of study is needed to show that team ownership does not give players free advertising to promote their political viewpoints to the world?
