What would be important for you to do before dying ?

Post by duszek »

I have never been to the US but I have known so many Americans and I have seen movies so I could die without a trip there.

But how about Husserl ?
I once started reading a Routledge Philosophy guidebook to Husserl and I did not finish it.
Should I buy it and read it while I am still alive and without demetia ?
Would it promote my views on life substantially ?

We don´t have time for everything.

You could die without a trip to America but if you really, really want a true American experience before you die, you would have to be there and travel a lot and talk to the people. Second-hand living doesn't have the same zing. So get out there.

Haven't a clue about Husserl. I have started and not finished quite a few philosophy books. Perhaps because I was not ready for the ideas, so a revisit might be a good idea - but not just because of a failure to finish. I think inspiration and motivation is key. Who or what inspires you; sets you alight?

For sure, time is limited. As is energy. And family and friends get fewer. We can make new friends, if so inclined. It would be easy to give up - especially if you knew you were dying. My thing, right now - is 'right now'. I want to write about my family; life experiences...
It isn't particularly important to me - but something I'd like to do.

More important is living in the moment. And trying not to be isolated or limited in thinking or action. So, I will continue the stream of likes; and hope to travel again to Italy. And then, mundane things - like getting finances/legal stuff in order. Making my wishes for a funeral known. Whatever they are. And then, trying to relax and not be anxious...
And eat strawberries and ice-cream...

But then again...

My American boyfriend is my American experience. Or my midwest experience, to be more exact.

I heard that Americans behave much better abroad than when they are in their own country.
They are more cooperative and more polite when they are abroad.

Experiencing them in their own country is a risk that it might be wise to avoid.

At this stage of life, what is important for me to do before I die is to live and enjoy another 20 years or so and for those in my circle to be well and happy in that time.

It's not necessary but I'd like to better comprehend my existential situation. Sometimes I look up at the sky and I cannot comprehend what the hell I'm looking at - despite the limits of vision it goes on forever! I look down and I cannot comprehend the scale of the Earth - it's simply too huge (and yes, I've seen the Factors of Ten style videos). Yet this is the pale blue dot! Here we are, like microbes scuttling around the surface of this huge living sphere in space under the "agar" of our atmosphere.

What's it all about, Alfie? :)

From the point of view of the history of the universe our lives are pretty insignificant.

"You came from dust and you will turn to dust."

Inspite of the insignificance of my existence my mind craves something substantial.

Hehehe ... I knew you wouldn't be able to resist.

What's it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What's it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?
And if only fools are kind, Alfie
Then I guess it is wise to be cruel
And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie
What will you lend on an old golden rule?

To get the most from any book it is always best to read it while you're alive and although some books, such as the Bible, would probably make more sense with dementia, in general, I would recommend reading without dementia.

I don't think I've ever been serenaded before, it makes me feel a little self conscious.
