Birthday Congratulations

Post by bobevenson »

Philosophy Now congratulates members on their birthday.
Conratulations
interjection
used to express joy in the success or good fortune of another
I don't get it, what does a birthday have to do with success or good fortune?

True. You don't say 'congratulations' for a birthday. More like 'commiserations'. :)

It means you've successfully survived another year and have had the good fortune of living another year.

Not for all, just for those unfortunate to still be among the living.

Some people might feel inclined to say 'congratulations' at a particularly momentous milestone birthday like the hundredth. Perhaps that's why you have been congratulated bob.
