I think you'll find behind every "Islamic connection" you perceive attached to every terrorist act is a deeper American act, either of historical or covert political significance.
Jihad is of different significance to peace loving Muslims and of course we shouldn't forget that many run-of-the-mill Muslims have died at the hands of Islamic fundamentalists. That, alongside the fact that America seems to be tarring every Muslim with the same histrionic brush, could explain the lack of Muslim outcry as happening, because of how decent Muslims are being treated across the board. It's better just to keep your head down, out of the crossfire, lest either side get you.
I think you'll find most liberal Muslims are as appalled by terrorists as they are of how America has manipulated the politics and economies of the middle east, and then stormtrooped their way across the region. I think they are more aware of your history than you are. (Let me recommend 'Oliver Stone's Untold History of the United States', produced alongside a Harvard academic, as a starter. Happy to recommend more if you actually manage to make it through that... but I get the feeling you won't get far beyond 'pooh-pah'ing this post, let alone any recommendations it may make.)
"Tacit support" may well exist, but it's not in the heart of every Muslim. In my experience of Muslims, it's not in the heart of MANY liberal Muslims. There's a general level of understanding in the liberal Muslim community, of events, why they have happened and how they have caused the rise of fundamentalism, that the Americans seem to lack, or ignore, or educate their own people with. It's being used within the community to prevent their own children from getting sucked in, and making the problem worse.
Tell me, what are the Americans doing to help reduce the problem, at root? All I see is an American government intent on adding fuel to the fire... It's all that ghastly oil, I suspect!
