Issue 92 - Philosophers on Philosophy

Post by RickLewis »

The title of the thread says it all, really. Issue 92 of Philosophy Now is now out, and it has a theme of "Philosophers on Philosophy".

It contains articles by Prof Christopher Norris on what he thinks is wrong with academic philosophy at the moment; by Carol Nicholson on how she thinks certain features of modern philosophy relate to the biology of the human brain, and by Mark Phelan on the currently trendy movement called Experimental Philosophy. On a more personal level Emery Cournand describes his recent journey into studying philosophy and Prof John Corcoran bids farewell to his students after more than forty years of teaching logic.

Also in this issue are articles about John Rawls and his famous Theory of Justice; about the possibility of living an authentic life; about metaphysics; and about the limits of philosophy of religion. We also have a 'Brief Life' of C.S. Peirce, who is seen by some as the greatest American philosopher of all time. In our regular columns, we review a philosophical vampire movie, Prof Joel Marks considers when it is immoral to laugh at somebody and Prof Raymond Tallis wonders when time began. Plus, as usual, news, letters, cartoons, fiction and book reviews.

I have successfully remembered an excellent article about C. S. Peirce, who is called "The American Aristotle." http://www.firstthings.com/article/2008 ... istotle-49
