Let's Marry...

Post by marjoram_blues »

...Novels with Poetry

Take A Novel Approach - from the Scottish Poetry Library; recommendations to pair up popular novels with contemporary poetry collections to get to the heart of each one.

One combo from the list:

Novel: The Night Watch - Sarah Waters
Poetry: The Book of Blood - Vicki Feaver. Excerpt:

We still haven't touched
only lain side by side
the half stories of our half lives

While we're here...
Any similar ideas to help anyone ' New to Philosophy' ?
Can we Marry a novel, or character, to a certain philosophy-er - or vice verse-ah...
Lying side by side...touching thoughts. To reach the heart of each one.

Waaaah! No Valentine cards. Oh well, I shall console myself with your proposal of marriage, marjoram_blues.

Me or you? Either way, thank you; you made my day and me blush.

Hmmm, I had thought you...but perhaps I meant me...
Or both; but that consolidates a 'We'...

A pleasure in making a day dawn rosy-fingered

And marrying sense and sensibility
Joining arts in unholy matrimony
As science ponders physicality of
The Painting *
Venus strokes the wings of Love
Mirroring Milton's masque
Comus
The Lady tempted by Desire
Remains Rational and Detached
Too bad

* 'The Dawn of Love' - William Etty

1. High Fidelity - Nick Hornby ( book and film)
2. Zoom - Simon Armitage ( poetry)
3. Philosopher ? Camus ? Any ideas ?

1. Character makes lists; funny way to bring order to midlife crisis: ' My desert-island all-time top 5 most memorable split-ups in chronological order'...' what came first the music or the misery...'

2.
I have not bummed across America
with only a dollar to spare, one pair
of busted Levi's and a bowie knife
I have lived with thieves in Manchester.

3. Camus
The world is never quiet,
Even its silence eternally resounds
With the same notes...

----
Alternative Zoom:
I love Zoom by Fat Larry's Band; Oh zoom, you chased the day away...moonbeams dancin' in the afternoon...
