Is this a good way to track depression?

This study uses phone data to track depression. I have doubts about the accuracy of this study along with how useful it can be. Here's the article:

Tracking depression? Are we then going to put them in concentration camps?

Seriously, yes. Those who spend inordinate amounts of time alone, at home, reaching out to others online, are probably somewhat depressed. Or misanthropic. Or can't afford to go to the opera... Oh, or are under house arrest, by the state, or by their spouses.

The highly depressed, though? No. They are homeless, without cell phones. And are understandably depressed.

I love studies that state the fairly obvious.

That's one of the differences between North American depression and European depression.
