Political or Social Ethics in a triangular relationship [all opposed to Chaos]
Three elemental values: Liberty or Freedom: Duty or Responsibility: Ego or self-centre
Three end values: Altruism: Autonomy: Tyranny.
Altruism [responsible-liberty] opposed to Ego.
Autonomy or Individualism [ego-liberty] opposed to Duty.
Tyranny or Authoritarianism: [ego-duty] opposed to Liberty.
Other such sets of consonant values may be constructed

This explains nothing, and are mere words put together without any deeper meaning.RWStanding wrote:Political or Social Ethics in a triangular relationship [all opposed to Chaos]

This won't guide any political debate, nor be helpful when making a decision.

Re: Pyramid of Ethics
No elemental value such as Freedom has any meaning, other than by assumption about what subjects it applies to. And what is that assumption based on?
Freedom may be related to other values or against them, so as to indicate something more, much as but better than the flimsy way we have left and right politics.
We cannot make moral judgements out of the blue. They must be based on prior values or rather sets of values.
Naturally we can appeal to God and what values would that denote.
We or society or anything can be free, or to a degree free, to make war to be apathetic to get fat.

If it's meaning depends on its application, then it wouldn't be elemental.RWStanding wrote:No elemental value such as Freedom has any meaning, other than by assumption about what subjects it applies to.

"Freedom" is not in any meaningful sense elemental.Londoner wrote:If it's meaning depends on its application, then it wouldn't be elemental.RWStanding wrote:No elemental value such as Freedom has any meaning, other than by assumption about what subjects it applies to.
