Attack on Nelson Goodman's "Entrenchment"

How does science work? And what's all this about quantum mechanics?

Attack on Nelson Goodman's "Entrenchment"

"The importance of the experiment is great. So great that if you do it properly you will not see any counter experiments confirmed because what you have proved with it is definite. Thus, seeing "features/laws of nature" become properly expressed is a matter of writing into eternity. Therefore, Confirmation is stronger than what is popularly written because the experiments/discoveries should describe something fundamental."

As comment from https://whatiswritten777.blogspot.no/20 ... 2969958312.
The blog posting: https://whatiswritten777.blogspot.no/20 ... d-hdm.html.

With Hypothetico-Deductive Model, this sets the science on a firm mount, philosophically.

(Edit:) So in this vein, one can list a number of classical experiments "from the classroom" so to speak, thinking of Newtonian experiments, measurements according to Einstein, various magnetic experiments, demonstrations of electricity and so on, the whole "wood" of renowned scientific experiments.

So what are your thoughts? Does it hold? Anything to comment? Cheers! :D

For example, to discover the blue whales, properly described and all that makes the blue whales a definite part of the history of animals on Earth.

Likewise, you can't say definitely that every experiment and theory are going to be overthrown, invalidated, in the future because it may just be that the scientist has come across a fundamental part of scientific history of the World. As such, the fundamental discovery of a certain experiment entailing a certain theory/hypothesis does not need time to be proven. It is in fact proven right there and then because there feasible experiments/theories/hypotheses to overthrow/invalidate it! I think a distinction of such a deviced experiment/theory/hypothesis is its immense, striking character of credibility/plausibility.

Secondarily, it must be said it's pure logic that at one point in time or another, one should hit upon fundamental features of nature/World science that stays with the knowledge of any sentience forever!

For instance: what can turn around/invalidate magnetics? Say magnetics of the Earth? In general? What can turn around/invalidate electricity? What can turn around/invalidate great parts of chemistry? Etc. We need to realize that what we have now found is likely, in large parts, to stay with us for as long as humanity survives/remains in the Universe.

In this respect, the history of astronomy, the best parts, is going to remain for all foreseeable future, which is fascinating and inspiring. One account of astronomy history here (against Kuhn and SSR): https://whatiswritten777.blogspot.no/20 ... kuhns.html.

Good? 8)
