The universe, before and after

How does science work? And what's all this about quantum mechanics?

The universe, before and after

Post by Philosophy Explorer »

The universe is supposed to cover everything in space. But how about time and space? Pick any particular time, e.g. some exact moment in 1/22/2017. At that time, the universe exists in space. Pick another time, e.g. some exact moment in 1/23/2017. Is that universe the same as the one in 1/22/2017? Even though the laws of science may be the same, the arrangement of objects at those two times can be different (e.g. the earth rotates around its axis and light from the sun can have reached the earth and gone beyond).

So would you regard those two universes as the same or different? Under what conditions would lead you to say the two universes at two different points in time to be actually different?

If the 'Universe' means ALL there is, then at any particular time 'ALL there is' is still the Universe. At any moment the Universe, or ALL there is, is still the exact same Universe just rearranged into another way, shape, or form. The Universe always remains constantly ALL there is but the Universe always is constantly changing in shape and form.

This statement contradicts relativity. This is a good example why dumbing down of science is a bad idea.

The statement contradicts reality, common sense and reason.

The universe is expanding and everything within it is in a constant state of motion but it is still the same universe
And it does not just cover everything in space but everything in spacetime. As space and time are interconnected

The idea of the past being a whole other reality seems like a poetic device designed to stimulate one to shrug off life's baggage and start afresh.

In truth, the past and present are hardly a "universe' apart. Rather, they are intimately connected, with the former shaping the latter.
