The mind itself cannot know anything.
The mind itself cannot know anything.
'' The mind itself cannot know anything since it only comes about itself as a result of Consciousness acting through the insentient matter of the brain. The knowledge of some object 'arises' when the mind is impacted on by the object. But what is actually happening is that Consciousness, as the object, is manifesting to itself through the mind, which is itself also operating only by virtue of Consciousness. Thus, a good definition of knowledge is that it is the manifestation of Consciousness (to itself) through the mind. ''

Considering the brain doesn't fully develop until age approx. 25 years, at what point do you begin your observations, DAM?
Re: The mind itself cannot know anything.
Could this be the reason we're not getting any responses from SETI because all the rest (excepting those still living in periods where theists are torturing atheists and each other) are so far above and beyond our planetary level of consciousness that they are deaf to our pathetic broadcasts pleading for a little company?
Man cannot live by intra-species communication alone and so....
Still he prays to receive from yonder
quarantined in light and unpolluted
a message for his mind to ponder
yearning to be reconstituted.
We expected much more from God but all IT seems to want from us is a chorus of Hallelujahs!

In not-knowing anything.Everything is known.

...which must be the reason Socrates knew Everything since he always claimed he knew nothing. However for many it's too late not to know anything since they already know they know something not to speak of what they it is they already know. These types can never be thinkers, or philosophers since by knowing something they know nothing...BUT by not knowing anything they know Everything!
It's Tylenol time!
Re: The mind itself cannot know anything.
Socrates is a concept known. That which is a concept known cannot know anything. For here is only knowing, in essence you are the non-conceptual knowing of every known concept. In this conception.
Socrates was referring to the unknown knower. The No claim, no blame, no fame, unidentified knower known as I without an object.
To know is to not-know. To not-know is to know. That's the meaning of Everything and Nothing.
Let it all go. See what stays.

How could Socrates have referred to the unknown knower if he knew the object asking the questions to examine what others knew?Dontaskme wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 9:09 amSocrates is a concept known. Also, if I let it all go to see what stays then that what stays causes me to know something which defeats the Not knowing in order to Know!
Are you saying there is a neutral entity in each of us which conceptualizes not knowing in order to know?
