How materialists know brain produces mind

Is the mind the same as the body? What is consciousness? Can machines have it?

OK, I watched as much of the video as I could stand. Blah, blah, blah, just another 'scientist' making claims that someone smarter than him will, at some as yet undetermined time in the distant future, build a robot that thinks like we do. (It smells more like faith than science.) He fails to mention that neither he nor anyone else has yet explained how our minds work, and we've been at this for a couple of thousand years. Nearly all our explanations are based on two unproven assumptions: one, that our brains are our minds and two, that we experience consciousness in our brains. HOLD ON, WHO DOESN'T BELEAVE THOSE TWO PROVEN FACTS? At best, the evidence presented suggests that our brains are a part of our minds and have a role in consciousness. We've been stuck on this "hard problem of consciousness" for far too long. Witness the number of discussions that go nowhere. Being stuck signals the time to try something new. (We can't keep on doing the same thing while expecting a different result.) How about reconsidering these two basic assumptions? Isn't that supposed to be the role of philosophy?
