Holistic empathy

Is the mind the same as the body? What is consciousness? Can machines have it?

Holistic empathy

Post by fractal »

Mind and body are just one.

Our digestive system has hundreds of neurons and hormones that regulate many functions, including our mood. We need to understand this so we know how important is to be holistic when approaching the human body.
Me as a physical therapist, when I treat my patients I try to picture them as a small planet with its own rules, mechanics, physiology, memories, experience, knowldege, emotions, etc. And then I try to find in them something in common with me. Because the only way I can understand their pain or complaint is with empathy in my mind and in my hands. But for that I have to leave my ego at home.

Once I have an empathetic attitude towards the patient, my brain and my hands do the rest. And simply the power of touch with the right force and vectors, allows the body to heal itself in a miraculously way.
