Re: If I can imagine it, it's logically possible?

The moment you have to dive deep into the details on any particular issue the English dictionary runs out of words/concepts rather rapidly. You can't draw an extrapolation that all other arguments will be similar to those between you and JohnDoe7. What you described, Logik, does not happen. You are...

Re: If I can imagine it, it's logically possible?

At least 60% of the phenomena/objects around you (the things you experience day to day) are NOT in the dictionary. Name them. What you claimed, Logic, is equivalent to saying "67% of all quoted statistics are taken from thin air." I can't find one single solitary thing in my surroundings ...

Re: What is the purpose of computers?

This is a paradox. If logic/reason cannot conquer the is-ought gap then logic/reason should not be able to convince you to change your mind. It is only a paradox if you believe that logic/reason is the only thing capable of action. There are other tools of programming, not only logic/ reason. I mea...

Re: If I can imagine it, it's logically possible?

Circle a. A plane curve everywhere equidistant from a given fixed point, the center. Square 1. A polygon having four equal sides and four equal angles. Polygon A closed plane figure bounded by three or more line segments. EB Why are you artificially constraining your imagination to an Euclidian spa...

Re: If I can imagine it, it's logically possible?

the rules of logic Logic doesn't have rules. It is 100% constructive and constructed. The rules of logic are the operators that drive operations performed. If you say "P or Q" it is a rule that either P or Q, or both, if true, then the result is true. That is one rule of logic. It is cons...

Re: what do humans really want?

Do you see? No, I actually don't see. What you wrote is incomprehensible to me. It's not a problem of miscommunication, either. Buddha is beyond your limitations of comprehension. Nothing to get defensive over this truth. It's just the way things are. It's just the way things are not. Only madmen's...

Re: Ronald Beiner and his book "Dangerous Minds"

From Thinkers Against Modernity by Keith Preston: "One wonders if such martial spirit could ever again be recaptured and directed towards a more constructive vision. The decadence of modern society is illustrated by the apathetic nature of its population. The principal values of contemporary W...

Re: Ronald Beiner and his book "Dangerous Minds"

Do you think that the atrocities committed by Stalin and Mao and Pol Pot would never have happened if they were not atheists ? Do you think that their narcissistic and psychopathic tendencies had nothing whatsoever to do with their murderous campaigns ? Hitler was not an atheist and yet the atrocit...

Re: Ronald Beiner and his book "Dangerous Minds"

. . . the worst that any psychopathic atheist could hope to achieve is to torture a dissident for as long as they can keep them alive. Quite rightly you condemn them for this. On the other hand, you think a being that condemns a dissident to torture for eternity is a good thing. I am a psycho-affec...

Re: Why the West is morally superior

The West may not be militarily or economically superior to say China, Saudi Arabia etc. It may be, but it may well turn out that China becomes the world largest superpower, unfortunately. But I will argue why The West (Western Europe+US/Canada+Australia and maybe even countries in Asia/Middle East ...

Re: If I can imagine it, it's logically possible?

Heh, that is great you even used my same key counter-example. A square circle can be partially imagined until you get to the mutually exclusive attributes. Well, no surprise here, it's possibly the most famous case of assumed logical impossibility... And this shows an infinite past with a beginning...

Nice picture, but irrelevant.
And, notice that there is a projection of a circle which is indeed a square (and vice versa).
So?
EB
Circles are per definition two-dimensional. You can't invoke or imagine a three-dimensional circle. Not allowed.

Re: If I can imagine it, it's logically possible?

If I can imagine it, it's logically possible? What do you mean, "logically possible"? Logic is a formal tool to show that if something is true, then something else is also true, given some circumstances and restrictions. Logic has nothing to do with reality, although it can be applied to ...

Re: what do humans really want?

Buddha et al aside for now, what is it that human beings want? Peace of mind? Ignorance and bliss? Total knowledge of the world around them? What does all humankind, not merely icons of the past, want? What would the average human want or what would be the median of all the wants? I think that’s wh...

They are collecting names to know whom to line up against the wall and shoot, when the revolution comes.
