Re: Christianity

They give you this softball question in which you can say something truly thought provoking. Christendom asserts thou shalt not kill while Christianity asserts thou shalt not murder in the heart. Who recognizes the distinction and the importance of the difference between these two concepts? A perso...

Re: Christianity

...please do attempt to tack without cowardice. Wow. So flattering. You really know how to get your discussion partner on your side. I have faith in Christ. Ok, so I just made up a quote for you... Yes. You did. Why did you feel you wanted to do that? Have I not been clear enough on what I be...

Re: Christianity

the legitimation problem ...is a figment of your imagination. Let's see if you're right. Now, who disagrees with you? How about Jurgen Habermas (author of "The Legitimation Crisis")? What about Hans Blumenberg (author of "The Legitimation of the Modern Age")? And in specific, wi...

Re: Christianity

The seed of God is in us. Given an intelligent and hard-working farmer, it will thrive and grow up to God, whose seed it is; and accordingly its fruits will be God-nature. Pear seeds grow into pear trees, nut seeds into nut trees, and God-seed into God. ~ Meister Eckhart How many acorns grow up to ...

Re: Christianity

A J. But what about the 'metaphysical essence'? Well, I think that Nick explores all of that and has made reference after reference. I read Needlman's book Lost Christianity: A Journey of Rediscovery years back, and understood its premise: at that level to be a Christian is to be a contemplative and...

Re: Christianity

A J .no one even seems interested in discussing and analyzing contemporary events in the light of the break-down in the possibility of metaphysical agreements. That is because people here do not respect the difference between knowledge and opinions. Where opinions are derived from the ever changing ...

Re: Christianity

You've come a long way Harbal. I remember the days when your chief aim was to destroy what you didn't understand. Yes, my past behaviour did leave a lot of room for improvement, didn't it? :? Actually, Nick, it is to your credit that you are prepared to have anything to do with me. :) Old Russian s...

Re: what is the religion of reason?

what is the religion of reason? Just how powerful can self-justification be? How is it that one can believe in reason as their god, worshiped as the most admirable thing? Truly they see it as the provider of all they need to know. The religion or reason is becoming capable of experiencing top down ...

Re: Christianity

Since humanity as a whole lives as you describe and Plato called the beast, is it surprising that humanity reacts as described in Ecclesiastes 3 concluding as war? A creature of reaction doesn't have choice. You may think my whole approach to life is wrong, Nick, but at least I am trying to figure ...

Re: Christianity

My first paragraph means that I did not invent any of my ideas. All my ideas come from others who I choose to follow. That is probably how most of us come to have most of our ideas. That's fine, but I'm more cautious when it comes to following. I have a limited knowledge of the great thinkers, but o...

Re: Christianity

Man on earth, in Plato's Cave, is a mechanical creature of reaction reacting as does all animal life to earthly and cosmic influences. As such everything repeats; dust to dust. Jesus efforts in life and death made it possible for those open to it to consciously change their being; to evolve into a ...

Re: Christianity

This thread has proven that Christianity in society has been lost to man made Christendom making it largely impotent and only a tool of the state. There are several reasons for this and the one I contemplate is the relationship between higher and lower reason: Could you define the object of religio...

Re: Christianity

To be honest, I feel more connection to Harbal and Lacewing here than to IC or Nick. I'm sure IC and Nick are good people in their own right, however, Harbal and Lace seem much more down-to-Earth to me, tolerant and accepting of human weakness. I guess the main thing I don't like about Christianity...
