Re: Goedel Escher Bach - by Douglas Hofstadter
I read some pages (through 120 I guess), and this books appeared to me very interesting by its style and problems. I can compare it to Raymond Smullians's books, and 'Alice in Wonderland' of Carroll. I started to read it because of Godel's problem. They gave me an advice about this book to be read ...

Re: Books are meaningless
It's true, books are meaningless unless they're read. Without readers books are just paper whose pages you can use to wrap fish in or in case you run out of toilet paper. Or wrap fish AFTER you run out of toilet paper, if you are so inclined. Ewwwww lol! Which comes first is a matter of choice. Com...

Re: A Fable For Everyone
Ok. Well, I posted some literature in books, but David Benatar wrote the most rigorous book on reasoned antinatalism. And Fihige's writing on antifrustrationism is in the same vein. ie. If you understand one, you'll get the other.

Re: Which Ultimate Truths Can Be Proven "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt"?
I posted this elsewhere, but will just paste it here. _______________________ 1. There is thought. ie. I have awareness. I exist. 2. There are things that exist whether I am aware of them or not. They are independent of my thought. I accept this from the first premise because these things persist be...

Re: Happy holidays/Merry Christmas
Roses are red, violets are blue, If it weren't for Christmas, you'd be a Jew! It's the season to be jolly! Marry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone, live it up now, then you can go back to your morose selves again in January, to get rid of those excess pounds of the lighthearted and joyful ...

Re: Why do lower class people oppose Basic Income?
Same reason they support the conservative cause. Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat, but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires. --- Attributed to John Steinbeck Very smart. There was actually a movement in America as well, during t...

Re: Regarding expletives
AMod, if it's me among others that caught your eye, I will do my best to correct my behaviour. Not to make excuses, but I often use them in jest, and really don't mean to offend by them. I can imagine I do get carried away with them, though. But I will try, with gratitude for your forbearance. You ...

It's that time of year again, so I wanted to lead off with the best of the season for all here. I love you all in my own way just for being here, staff and posters, and I do wish you all the best hence. Be safe, and be here in the new year, okay? :) Peace, tranquility, and happiness to you all. Re: A Fable For Everyone
Not quite a universal moral. I despise (perhaps an overly strong word) life, or rather, consciousness. Mind, I didn't jump for it. Someone else did, and I got stuck with it, like it or not. I personally find it very difficult to relate to people that see life, and most specifically consciousness, a...

Dystheists do. I think that counts. Actually, I think deists do as well. Misotheists? Definitely. They think he's an effing arsehole.
