Re: Science is Based on Faith like Theism?
Insofar as scientists base investigations on a theory of reality/truth(e.g. such as the primacy of human reason) then science is " based on faith". However theism goes further and presupposes not only reason but also supernatural authority.

Re: What does God look like?
of course one could. simply by reading to word of God and listening to what he says. why should i disbelieve the bible? who am i to question such things? Presumably rational intelligence. stating you view same as me? that with blatantly exercising the essence of the bible as 'read my words and foll...

Re: Liminal places
There are some actual liminal places that I love. One of those is the moment before I step into a small boat so small I can feel it move to displace water beneath me. Maia wrote In so many ways we seem to care more about boundaries than the actual things they enclose. From my own feelings this is u...

Re: Christianity
Chaz Bufe Reasons to Abandon Christianity Christianity has a morbid, unhealthy preoccupation with sex. For centuries, Christianity has had an exceptionally unhealthy fixation on sex, to the exclusion of almost everything else (except power, money, and the infliction of cruelty). This stems from the...

Re: what are we seeking?
Abstract values such as justice, goodness, truth, and beauty are part of what humans do to try to predict the future for themselves. Morality is abstract virtues made explicit and codified. The difference between men and other animals is men sometimes think in abstract values while (as far as we kno...

Re: Christianity
But we can still have a strong, subjective, emotional response to events and situations. Yes. But so can a toddler, when it doesn't get its way. Anybody who's had a two-year-old knows that, of course. So we need something that separates the irrational, demanding, solipsistic squalling of an infant ...

Re: Everything is Not a Thing
The Yin Yang symbol is this duality, this matching of opposites, which in Buddhism is not opposite at all. For in the one, there is a dark spot and in the other there is a light spot, meaning there are no absolute opposites, there is always an element of the other in each. "What is the differe...

just as in a river no single eddy can be separated from the current’s overall motion. They say you can't step into the same river twice, but I have found that once is usually more than enough, anyway. :| DAM's point is relevant even when your stepping into the river more than once is a thoug...

No, I do not claim that nature is unmanifested energy, in fact, apparent reality/our everyday reality is a world of objects. The world of objects is a biological simulation, a biological readout, informing the subject not of the source, but of the effects of the source upon the senses of the biolog...

Re: Christianity
Is there an "objective" definition of evil that we can refer to? The answer seems to be no, there is not. Interesting. I don't find that "obvious" at all. But perhaps you have reasons for finding it obvious, so I'm ready to hear them, if you have such. It's certainly not the cas...
