Re: The Tragedy of Life

Dear Mr or Ms Dattaswami.

Perhaps you are a good person who wishes to make the world a better place.
But you would get more attention if you formulated your messages in short succinct sentences, if I may suggest with all due respect.

Peace.

"They sicken of the calm who know the storm."
- Dorothy Parker, a line from one of her poems.
Some could say just as well: They sicken of the storm who know the calm.

Re: The Tragedy of Life

After listening two times to the excellent podcast about the tragedy of life I would like to develop on the following: It was mentioned that if all our desires were satisfied our life would become boring. But what happens if one's desire was to never become bored? If that one's desire were satisfie...

Re: The Tragedy of Life

Yes, I agree, Sculptor. Internet is a fountain of excitement which we will not be able to explore in our short lives. But how much of it is right and is it possible to overdo it or to get fed up with it ? Your eyes can grow tired of staring at the screen, your back will pain after a while. And apart...

The Tragedy of Life

After listening two times to the excellent podcast about the tragedy of life I would like to develop on the following: It was mentioned that if all our desires were satisfied our life would become boring. It was then immediately suggested that you can desire excitement. These two seem to contradict ...

Re: Obesity and Gender

And among the aged there are large numbers of very slim and fragile people. They don´t absorb food properly any more and die of malnutrition. Someone should tell them they need to eat the food, unless you are talking about aged plants, of course. I remember an Italian thriller on TV, an aged Italia...

Re: Obesity and Gender

Sometimes I doubt if the statistics can be correct. I don´t see all these heavy people in the street or on TV.

And among the aged there are large numbers of very slim and fragile people. They don´t absorb food properly any more and die of malnutrition.

Re: Experiment to show your state of delusion

Chopping wood is a good idea. My personal solution is to switch from one hemisphere to the other one, from the emotional one to the analytical one. I don´t mean analyzing some annoying situation because that implies that emotional expressions come to your mind anyway. Either one formulates the situa...

Re: Can philosophy cure depression ?

Modern literature has become so ugly and disgusting that it can depress you even more. I wonder if philosophical writings of a person full of life energy would not have a positive effect on one´s psyche. Not someone like Sören K. or Nietzsche. Perhaps a friendly teacher of philosophy ? His kindness...

Re: how do we survive our soul crushing world?

There is one trick that works but I admit that it is a cheap one and it does not improve your self-esteem. You assume and accept that the world is just as bad as it seems to be so every day is a miracle. But: Today I am still free to decide what I have for breakfast and I enjoy it as a privilage. It...

Re: Is there a distinction between any claim, X, and the claim 'X is true'?

Both sentences are not specific and precise enough. That´s why you all assume typical situations and take them for granted. And argue from them. A person during a therapeutic or esoteric session might say with closed eyes: It´s raining. Then we would assume it is raining in their imagination. And th...

And the charming accent of Manchester, if someone can speak it. Like Coronation Street??? The word 'charming' doesn't spring to mind for me. I find all the different English accents to be hideous. Odd, because I love the Welsh and Irish accents (apart from so-called 'Northern Ireland' accent which ...

Re: D.H. Lawrence

Sculptor Thank you for your feedback. On librivox a certain Tony Foster (resident of Manchester) reads "The Lost Girl". He is a great artist to me. Listening to him is a rare treat. RCSaunders Fitzgerald sounds frivolous to me. I remember his story of James Button. A wonderful idea but som...

Re: D.H. Lawrence

Thank you for the tip. The trailer was good, I watched it on youtube. Perhaps he wasted his talent because he focused on love ? And love is not the most important thing on earth, accoring to some people. But what would be more important to write about ? Character, moral values, saving the world perh...
