Re: Is morality objective or subjective?
Well, your question was already answered: yes, God knows both all the alternatives among which you choose, and which choice you will make, but does not make you do anything. Well something must make me do whatever I end up doing. What do you suppose that something is? Ultimately, it's you. You have...

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?
Again, "know" and "make" are two different verbs. That God knows what you will do does not even remotely imply He has to have made you do it. You can do it yourself. I didn't suggest he made me do anything, as you will see if you carefully read my question again. After which you...

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?
So he knows what the outcome of my choice will be once I have made the choice, but does he know what choice I will make before I make it? Again, "know" and "make" are two different verbs. That God knows what you will do does not even remotely imply He has to have made you do it....

Re: Christian Civilization -- The Central Issue
At least … you’re thinking! Intuition guided me to that conclusion more than thought did. A lazy flowing river might also. Following an adventurous fly, too. But try to arrive at the same conclusive result with an Aristotelian rigor. But (to quote Wizard) don’t strain the frail double-digits! 🥰 Don...

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?
Not "randomness," per se. Volition. That is, he created beings that could choose freely to do His will, or to do that which is actually contrary to what He would will for them. That's established very clearly from Genesis on forward...mankind is an entity that can choose "good" ...

Re: Christian Civilization -- The Central Issue
I align you with your fellow Landsman and brother Harbal. He is a man who cannot even conceive of what I refer to as *higher*. And you are a man with at least some intellectual wherewithal to destroy an alignment with that *higher set*. You are therefore excellent products for study. No, I cannot c...

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?
When God first created everything and set it all in motion, did he incorporate into his creation the potential for chance and randomness? Not "randomness," per se. Volition. That is, he created beings that could choose freely to do His will, or to do that which is actually contrary to wha...

Re: Is morality objective or subjective?
When I use the word "coercion," all I'm signifying is the belief that an external force (we could say it's God, or material causality, or even quantum mechanics) is supposed to be the real, ultimate, final explanation for what human beings do. In fact, anything other than the explanation ...

Re: Christian Civilization -- The Central Issue
The “mass man” that Ortega y Gasset writes about is a phenomenon of our present, and we are all a part of it or subsumed in it. I wish I could find the words to express how little I care, and that desire makes me realise how important not caring is to me. It seems I do have a purpose, after all. 🙂 ...
