Now, is 'special relativity' a fact or a theory?
It's a theory that neatly accounts for some facts.

Re: Relativity?

Did the person who produced the theory of relativity predict that some clocks would actually "tick faster" (for lack of better wording) the faster that clock went, relative to direction of travel? Not to my knowledge; it is implicit in the theory. What you have to bear in mind is that direction of ...

Re: Last minute tweaks

interesting video- if all matter in the universe is currently moving towards a singular point... Well yeah, Einstein thought it should be, but he also believed the universe is stable. To account for galaxies' failure to move towards a singular point, Einstein made up a force that exactly counteract...

Re: Will Trump's border wall keep out all undesirables?

My answer is no. Consider prisons where security is supposed to be very high. There have been prison breakouts (including "El Chapo"). The border wall does not keep undesirables trapped, only designed to keep them out of the US. I can't see the wall being effective under these circumstance and I co...

Re: Scapegoats for Secular Progressives

The essential question: is Perennial Philosophy a reality? But not the one we are addressing. Secular progressive philosophy must deny objective truths as the source of subjective opinions. Tell you what; you keep saying 'secular progressive' and I'll keep saying 'non Christian and non conservative...

Re: Last minute tweaks

Sorry for being late to the party, William. Better late than never. (It's Will, by the way.) I'm only partway through but I have to say it's amazing! Fantastic work - it would have taken an age :) Thank you-it did. If anything non-trivial jars me as I continue I'll give feedback, but so far it's al...

Re: Last minute tweaks

I just don't consider EM and GF stuff. Fair enough. For practical purposes they can simply be treated as forces that different point sources of charge, or mass, exert on each other. As far as the maths is concerned, it doesn't necessarily matter how big a source of charge or mass is; you could repl...

Re: Last minute tweaks

The terms "empty" and "space" also implies that space acts simultaneously as a boundary as empty implies a deficiency. But it isn't clear that there is any such thing as 'empty space'. Space is "being", in simple terms. Which is pretty much how Parmenides described it 2500 years ago. How does that ...

Re: Scapegoats for Secular Progressives

Anyway: Sure, a human perspective reflects universal values and laws. There isn't a universal human perspective which recognises the same values and laws. Christians and other religious nuts, believe some god has some set of values and laws that we should abide by, but they quite clearly aren't univ...

Re: Scapegoats for Secular Progressives

As several people have alluded to, this entire thread is a textbook example of projection, with a side order of martyr complex. From the top: Secular Progressives believe they know the path to utopia, peace on earth and how to educate and +organize society to follow it. Actually, Nick_A, that's what...

Re: Scapegoats for Secular Progressives

Man, capable of conscious attention would connect above and below and put society as well as ourselves into a human perspective. Not god's then. You really need to cite your sources. People change their mind. Considering that Simone Weil was prepared to shoot and kill her enemies, clearly there wer...

Re: Last minute tweaks

Arguing that matter is fundamentally "stuff" is more rational then saying it is space? Depends what you mean by 'space'. If you mean that space=void, as in empty space, then you are presented with two possibilities. Either there are voids in which electromagnetic and gravitational fields have no in...

Re: Scapegoats for Secular Progressives

Transcending the nature of the beast is not bending over for it. Rather it is knowledge of the forces which keep us a slave to it through the power of imagination. The church, the military, the judiciary, economic cabals, the aristocracy/oligarchry are not imaginary. If you do nothing to resist, yo...

Secular progressives are notorious for this. They are so busy transforming the world that they cannot admit how corrupt their own inner lives are so are content to blame scapegoats.
When you are done, there is an unfinished conversation ...

Re: Scapegoats for Secular Progressives

uwot What a pity we can't all just forget these silly ideas that there are some people who take advantage of us, by exploiting our superstitions, good will and resources; by force, if necessary. You have described what happens and I agree. The point I am making is that there is no choice in it. I d...
