Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
But what of the conscious part that observes the functioning of this machine? Hinduism describes it as two birds on the same tree. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_of_Jiva_and_Atman A person can have the experience of being aware that they are aware. Instead of just reacting as normal for any anim...

Re: Subjects, Objects and Transjects
]I cannot figure out anything clearly from your diagram and explanation. I think the subject of Cosmology, Evolution, Evolutionary Psychology and philosophy will connect all the dots nicely for most of the terms that are in your diagram. http://subjectsandrelations.com/SUBJ3.jpg This is a bit offtr...

Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
It does seem to be there. Even though I'm not a trained scientist, I do sense these levels of qualities. Are you limiting levels of reality to below the level of the sun or do you include the possibility of above this level as in the diagram included in this link: http://philosophy.tamu.edu/~sdanie...

Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
It seems that for some reason there have always been those open to levels of reality and others closed to it. Plato's theory of forms requires being open to at least two levels of reality. I never could understand why it appears obvious to some and absurd to others. It is a question for the psychol...

Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
Yes, I did enjoy Basarab Nicolecu's article. It is probably the deepest, most metaphysical piece I've ever read. I sincerely thank you for providing it here. I'll certainly need to give it more thought but, if you are interested, I can attempt a brief metaphysical expose based on subjects and relati...

Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
My interest is in the eventual unification of science and religion which I believe to be essential if humanity is to survive its scientific advances including the ability to make more efficient and catastrophic war. I absolutely agree with you. How refreshing it is for me to read this. One guy trie...

Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
As I understand it, the domain of the forms is the domain of the "Good." Forms initiate with the "Good" and can not be considered objective reality. However what we regard as forms such as chairness and clouds for example initiate with the level of reality called "sun."...

Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
As I see it, Plato's world of forms is the world of ideas or potentials for forms to manifest through the interactions of universal laws on lawful levels of reality. Consider the difference between no-thing and nothing as the boundries of creation. No-thing is consciousness without content. Everyth...

Re: Subjects, Objects and Transjects
The dichotomy of 'subject' and 'object' is very necessary within the common sense and conventional perspective. Philosophers of the past had recognized the limitation of the above perspective and had attempted to shift perspective to transcend the above dualism with non-dualistic and monistic conce...

Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
i was in my garage the other day, i think it was 2 days ago, well anyways, was sorting through my garage some more. an old futon frame, a broken printer, things like that. underneath it all i found a box, that i thought might be garbage also. i lifted up the top and the first thing i saw on top was...

Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
Both the reality of fractions and the experience of color helps me to appreciate Plato's theory of forms. Of course this is superficial but it helps in understanding what is meant by a "conscious human perspective" that transcends the automatic expression of opinions. The number ONE can b...

Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
I think I get it, you are proposing a theory of essentialism. In other words, a set of attribute(s) that are not accidetal to the make up of a particular thing or object but something that is essential. That is to say, if the object or thing no longer has this attribute(s) then it can no longer can...

Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
In you opening paragraph relating to clubs and organizations are you relating to the concept of 'personhood' more specifically corporate personhood. A corporation is a person under the law when it comes to some rights that are guaranteed in the Constitution, but usually reserved for individuals. So...

Re: Plato: A Theory of Forms
In modern terminology Gilbert Ryle would say Plato is committing a category error. The mistake is to think that, THE UNIVERSITY actually exists in some higher reality. Just because a mind has the ability to construct the concept of a university doesn't mean the concept has an existence. I believe i...
