Re: The End of the Human Era?
There's always danger in progress...or what we call progress. The question is if AI is forced to be limited because of fear, can progress still proceed along the path taken. That's the problem: people are afraid of losing their power as the most intelligent creatures, a so-called "apex of crea...

The End of the Human Era?
Did you read James Barrat's " Artificial Intelligence and the End of the Human Era "? An alarm book expressing all fears about AI coming, a kind of typical modern myth. Sure, such texts are quite useful: they are well read and discussed, performing the functions of criticism... http://imag...

Not only can they learn English, but studies have shown that 98 per cent of dolphins are atheist. it's interesting, how were scientists able to determine that? dolphins told it? even if they can learn 50 english words, i doubt they can use them in speech  And i doubt if scientists can unde...

Re: Is It Possible To Think Without Language?
we use language to "name" things and define feelings as well as observations around. once you decide on another system of codes to communicate - for example, the image of chair will serve as a definition of "have a seat" - you might start thinking by images, lines/dots, etc. :) b...

Re: Free Will vs Determinism
Once you live in society, there's no free will for you. even if they try to convince that it's you who choose, and it's your will - it's far from true as society has made the choice for you. it relates to the statement that each person is intelligent by himself but stupid in the crowd.

Your choices. Those you can make and control. Unfortunately, there are not so many of them you can control, which means your life isn't actually yours...

Re: He who cannot lie does not know what the truth is. (Thus Spoke Zarathustra) What?
The truth itself wouldn't exist without lie. it's like with good and evil: good wouldn't be good if there wasn't evil. it doesn't mean that one should lie to understand what's the truth. but he should know what's the lie to separate it from the truth. the problem is, both truth and lie are perceptual.

Re: Sex vs violence
well, isn't love a war itself? a constant struggle of masculine vs feminine. more than that, when you're in love, you struggle with your ego, destroying it step by step and melting in your partner. you give up a battle to win a war (well, you believe so), you think on strategies to get what you want...

it means not to impose your opinion and theories as the ultimate truth though, to me, it's exactly what most world's philosopher did.

Re: On Darkness
But most importantly what is "truth"? To me, "truth" is a word that can't be defined as an absolute value. Our understanding and perception of this value forms in childhood and depends on family, neighborhood, and cultural background. Sure thing, it would be great to define it o...
