Re: Secularism versus the Demonization of Atheists

Do you think the same assessment and conditions that you've given for secularism -- all just talk without proof, mere opinions, and noise -- applies to your favored ideologies as well? Of course not. If I did, why would I believe them? Would you believe something without these things? I cannot spea...

Re: Secular Intolerance

Belinda What justifies my belief is proportionate to what is brought into focus by reason and by my affection for and trust in reality whatever that may be in practice. Science is one way to access reality, and science's record of success impresses me. Arts is another way that I can access reality,...

Re: Secularism versus the Demonization of Atheists

It's all just talk, without any proof it's right-minded talk, or that it entails any obligation at all for those disinclined to believe any of it. There's no value in mere opinions, if those opinions cannot be shown to be right. That's just noise. Do you think this doesn't describe you? Ad hominem....

Re: Muslims say; religious freedom for me, but not for thee.

The point of this post is that Islam is intolerant. This is factually true. One can examine the laws of every Muslim-majority nation, and one will find that in each of those nations, non-Muslims have less rights than Muslims do. In the USA, a country that the political lefties bash like brainless d...

Re: Secularism versus the Demonization of Atheists

That interests me, Walker. I had not thought of the eternal now as a synonym for the present time as experienced. I have two problems with this explanation . One is that I cannot learn anything unless I retain memories of the past for comparison. And the other is that I cannot see how 'the present' ...

Re: Secularism versus the Demonization of Atheists

Immanuel Can: For God so loved the world, that He gave His unique Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. What is eternal life? What does it mean that Christ saves us? Please remember that Jesus himself pointed out that the coin had Caesar's portrait on it. Jesus d...

Warmongering, yes. But WW11 was generally a just war for the part of the Alllies: Nazism is unjust.

Re: Free Will vs Determinism

I should say -- and this not directed at I Can or anyone in particular -- that if people want to discuss free will and determinism, they've really got to be clear on what their definitions of these things are. The thread title itself, "free will vs. determinism" already sets up a necessary conflict...
